Cultural Differences Between the United States and Europe

While both Europe and the United States of America are considered the Western World, it's good to know there are definite differences in culture. Western people are those who speak a European tongue and are of people from European descent. However, Europeans and Americans differ in many ways. If you are considering moving to a European country, you will find the information below most informative and helpful as you plan your move.

Europe has a different standard of measure than most Americans. The metric system is taught in American schools. However, most people in the United States use the old English Imperial system of measure which includes yards, feet, miles, pounds, and Fahrenheit. European countries, however, use the metric system which is meters, grams, liters, and Celsius.

Another culture difference is how the countries perceive time and space. For example, a house in the United States that is 200 years old would be considered ancient. This is probably because America is a fairly young country. However, in Europe, something would not be considered ancient unless it was at least 2,000 years old. However, perception of distance seems to be the opposite. While Europeans would consider 100 kilometers a long way to drive, Americans would not think twice. This could be due to the fact that Europe is smaller and more heavily populated. In fact, the United States is over twice the size of Europe. However, Europeans are known to do more traveling than Americans, both inside their own county and to other countries as well. This is probably due to the closeness of other countries to their own country, as opposed to the distance from the United States to other countries.

Cars are another factor that differ greatly between Europe and the United States. American automobiles usually have automatic transmissions while European cars generally have manual gears. European automobiles are smaller and more round-shaped, while American cars are larger and more square-shaped. Trucks and limousines are vehicles that Americans enjoy. In Europe, however, these types of vehicles are rarely seen, as they prefer smaller cars due to parking and traffic congestion.

The view of education is another cultural difference between the European countries and the United States. In America, parents may save for many years and even go into debt to pay for their children to attend college. Most schools and universities in Europe, however, are free of tuition. In fact, it is just expected for children to attend college there and not a privilege, as in the United States.

European countries tend to have a more liberal point of view in regards to controversial political issues. Alcohol, soft drugs, prostitution and abortion, for example, are not major issues to them. In America, however, those things are regularly contended and debated. Americans are allowed to have firearms, however, while this is illegal in Europe. The average age for driving in Europe is eighteen years of age, but only sixteen years in the United States.

There are also some big differences in food. European countries tend to be more cultural in their dishes, with specialties that are localized. Their meals are generally more balanced than Americans and they eat less fast food. They also enjoy eating more cheese, yogurt and wines than Americans. Another major difference between the two countries is the feeling about religion. Going to church and worshiping God is the norm in America. In fact, many Americans think of church as a social event. In the United States, politicians frequently mention God, the Bible, and religion. Quite the opposite is true in Europe, however. It is not unusual for people to proclaim to be atheists and not attend church regularly. Because there is a very strict separation between politics and religion in Europe, politicians there never mention religion.

An interesting difference between the two countries is their desire to be politically correct. In America, this has become a huge deal, as they want to alleviate friction with other countries. With everyone in America having the same nationality and language, it is the religions and ethnic groups that separate people. People in Europe, however, associate more closely with their culture, birth place, language and ethnicity. More emphasis is placed on languages and cultures, so Europeans are separated more by these factors. While it would cause trouble to make fun of someone's religion in America, this is not an issue in Europe. However, making fun of someone's cultural group in Europe is a big no-no.

All in all, things are much more clear and specific in America, with rules and understanding about most cultural and political issues. Dating, relationships, marriage and other areas of relationships are cut and dried in America, while in Europe, people are much more spontaneous and less likely to follow any standard. Americans are sometimes seen as being stereotypical and conventional, while Europeans have a much more liberal culture.

Is Spanish Easy to Learn? How to Make Learning Spanish Easier?

Is Spanish easy to learn? How to make learning Spanish easier? If you are asking yourself these questions, you are in the right place! I'm going to answer these questions and show you some tips. Let's get started!

Is Spanish easy to learn?

Firstly, is Spanish easy to learn? It depends on your approach. In my opinion it's an easy language. Pronunciation is very easy to learn, grammar isn't super complicated and it's one of the most popular languages in the world, so there are a lot of opportunities to practice.

If you speak English, it's even easier, because Spanish is very similar to English in terms of vocabulary (there are hundreds of cognates).

Okay, so now you know that Spanish is easy to learn. How to make learning Spanish even easier? Here are three tips!

1. Develop a routine

Develop a habit to practice every single day for at least 30-60 minutes. Habits are extremely useful if you want to learn regularly. Keep in mind that it's better to learn 30 minutes a day than 3.5 hours once a week (it's easier to memorize and repeat).

2. Speak and write right from the beginning

If you want to learn Spanish quickly, you should concentrate on your speaking and writing skills right from the beginning. Don't wait until you are "ready" to speak.

3. Interact with native speakers as much as you can

Stop being an observer and immerse yourself in Spanish. Look for native Spanish speakers who want to learn your native language in exchange for a conversation in Spanish, find some Spanish message boards, chat on Spanish chats.

If you put these tips to use, I'm sure that you'll find learning Spanish very easy. Learning languages is all about a regular practice and your approach. Be patient and don't give up. Buena suerte!

Financial Aid Will Help You Obtain A College Education

Obtaining a college education can be expensive, but with the help of financial aid it is more than accessible. Financial aid comes in the form of scholarships and grants, which do not have to be repaid, and loans, which do have to be repaid and with interest. If you are serious about getting an education, then take the time to investigate these options.

Scholarships are a popular form of paying for a college education because it is an award of free money given by a sponsor. There are thousands of scholarship opportunities available to you, most of which can be found on the web. These forms of aid monies usually require the candidate to meet a specific criteria in order to qualify, but the variety of factors involved allow for most anyone to obtain assistance funding.

Scholarship sponsors choose who to give their money to by deciding what requirements they have to meet in order to qualify. These are often categorized by several factors; need, merits, career, major, and talents. There are other scholarships available that are so unique, they cannot be categorized. This should be one of the first options students consider when looking for help to pay for school.

Here are a few things you might want to know about grants before you get your search started. Grants are another form of free financial awards, and just by filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) students are applying for this federally funded aid. This form of financial assistance requires the student to have a monetary need and the FAFSA was developed to calculate that need. Other grants given by private organizations are also available to you, but they are less common then federal aid.

There are several Federal grant programs available to college students: Pell Grants, FSEOG (Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant), Academic Competitiveness Grant and specialized grants such as TEACH (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education) Grants and National SMART (Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent) Grants.

Loans are also a consideration when all other forms of assistance have been exhausted. When college students fill out the FAFSA, federal student loans will also be generated. As with grants, the student can choose to accept or reject the financial award. Private student loans are also available (those aids offered by private institutions such as banks and credit unions) but they are generally less flexible than federal loan programs that offer lower interest rates and other incentives.

There are five loan programs offered by the federal government: Federal Perkins Loan, Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan, Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Direct PLUS Loans for Parents and Direct PLUS Loans for Graduate and Professional Students. Investigate the different requirements and benefits to see which program could be the best fit for you.

Now that you have a general idea of the financial aid opportunities available to help pay for your education, please get informed. Making a well-thought out and planned decision is essential to having a successful college career, whether it's degrees from a traditional university or online degrees. The better you plan your college journey, the more you be equipped for an even greater career in the workforce.

Quality Signalling Systems Training

Signalling Systems Training

Effective rail signalling training, which delivers the right knowledge and skills at the right time, is critical to all rail organisations. However, despite such courses being available, many rail organisations do not achieve this most fundamental of qualities in their courses:

  • New staff must wait until courses are scheduled
  • Staff must then take time off the job to attend
  • The course dates probably won't suit the workplace requirements; they suit the trainer
  • Whether staff already know any of the content, they have to attend all of the course
  • Everyone is forced to progress at the same speed, usually the slowest
  • The trainers don't develop skills, because they are balancing the different knowledge levels of the participants

Quality Training Structure

Rail courses need to cater for the different experiences and types of people who work with signalling systems:

  • Introductory Courses should develop knowledge of signalling types and their basic function to the new-start.
  • Basic Courses, for technical people early in their career, should further develop signalling knowledge with detailed construction, operation and nomenclature.
  • Advanced Courses (which have a practical training component) assist the employee in designing, installing, testing or maintaining signalling systems.

Quality Training Providers

These courses are available by few providers, one being global leaders in on-line rail training courses. These providers understand the core requirement of any railway is to safely move trains throughout the network, and any person working with the Signalling System must have all the skills to work within this Safety-Critical field. Good providers specialise in meeting your need for properly trained staff.

How To Improve Your Spanish Pronunciation With a Simple Technique

Today, I have a story to tell you that will teach you a technique on how to improve your Spanish pronunciation. Last week I made a couple of new friends herein Medellin, Colombia, who are learning English. I have been helping them out with their English, especially their pronunciation.

One common mistake that I have heard them make is to pronounce the English word "Spanish" so that it sounds more like "Espanish."

After hearing them make the mistake of saying "Espanish" several times, I gave them a exercise to do at home which I guaranteed them will stop them from saying "Espanish."

I told them to go home, look in the mirror and say "Spanish" while paying attention to their mouth. If they notice that at the very beginning of the word "Spanish" they are making a smile then they are mispronouncing the word.

I told them, that if they begin the word "Spanish" while Smiling at the very beginning of the word they are going to inevitably make the Spanish vowel "e" sound and the word is going to sound more like "Espanish" than "Spanish."

Where did I learn this technique since I have never taught English and have never studied English phonetics?

I learned it when studying how to speak and pronounce Spanish without sounding like a Gringo.

Basically, I told my Spanish-speaking friends that when speaking English do NOT do what I learned to do when speaking Spanish.

Let me explain...

There was a time when I would pronounce the Spanish word "el" so that it sounded exactly like the English letter "L."

That may work fine in a tourist area of Latin America where people are accustomed to Spanish speaking gringos.

But in some parts of Latin America where the "gente" (people) have not been exposed to native English-speakers who speak (or try to speak) Spanish, the "gente" may not understand you if you pronounce the Spanish word "el" like the English letter "L."

This is a technique, that I learned from not only listening but also watching native Spanish speakers.

When they pronounce the Spanish vowel "e" their face makes a slight smile.

So every day I used to practice saying the Spanish vowel "e" and the Spanish word "el" in the mirror while making sure that I slightly smiled when pronouncing the Spanish "e" sound. I would do this every day for 2 or 3 minutes in the mirror.

After doing this a couple of weeks, I noticed that my pronunciation of the Spanish vowel "e" had improved to the point where it sounded just like a native Spanish speaker.

But there was something about the way that I said the word "el" that just didn't sound like a native Spanish speaker saying "el." There was something very gringo-like with my pronunciation of the Spanish word "el."

And I wasn't only having that problem with the word "el," but I was also having the same problem with the Spanish word "mil" (thousand) and also with "al."

So I spent some more time observing native Spanish speakers' mouths when they pronounced words such as "el," "mil,"and "al."

At one point, a Spanish-speaking friend asked me "Patrick, what do you think you're a dentist now?"

But I still could NOT pronounce the words like a native Spanish speaker.

And then it suddenly hit me!

I had been spending so much time looking at the outside of the mouths of native Spanish speakers that I overlooked the fact that there may be something going on in the inside of their mouths that I was not aware of.

With a little research and experimentation I realized that the tip of the tongue of a native Spanish speaker touches the roof of the mouth when pronouncing the Spanish "L" sound.

So with that in mind, I practiced two or three minutes a day in the mirror saying "mil," "el," and "al." And within a couple of weeks I was pronouncing those words like a native speaker.

So if you want to improve your Spanish pronunciation, watch the mistakes that Spanish-speakers make when pronouncing English words and use their "mistakes" to learn proper Spanish pronunciation.

Learn Chinese Writing Effectively by Understanding Chinese Character Development History

Do you want to master Chinese writing effectively? You may have heard that learning Chinese characters is not easy. What is the first step to do to make your learning process effectively in the future? My suggestion is to understand Chinese character development history.

Generally speaking, there are seven different periods for Chinese character development:

First period--primitive pictures: Before characters appear, our ancestors used primitive pictures to express meanings. Characters are evolved from those primitive pictures.

Second period-- oracle bone inscriptions: Oracle bone inscriptions were simplified primitive pictures which were some abstract symbols carved on tortoise shells or animal bones. It is called "jia3 gu3 wen2" in Chinese.

Third period--brozeware script: Bronzeware script is called "jin1 wen2" in Chinese. "Jin1 wen2" were typecast on bronzewares or other metal wares. It was finer and more beautifully than oracle bone inscriptions.

Fourth period-- seal character: Seal Character is called "zhuan4 shu1" in Chinese. "Zhuan4 shu1" were carved on orderly bamboo pieces or wood blocks. There were two types: one was called "da4 zhuan4" and the other was called "xiao3 zhuan4". "xiao3 zhuan4" was the first character style that was used by whole China as the standard universal characters. It was more simplified than "da4 zhuan4".

Fifth period-- fficial script: Official script is called "li4 shu1" in Chinese. Compared with "xiao3 zhuan4", "li4 shu1" turned round to square in shape and turned curve to straight in line, simplified characters by removing complications in strakes.

Sixth period-- regular script: regular script is called "kai3 shu1" in Chinese. It is a kind of font slightly rebuilt on the basis of official script. It maintained the structure of official script but more convenient to write. It is the standard character writing in regular occasions, easier to master because of fewer basic character strokes, is used until nowadays.

Seven period-- traditional form and simplified form: Before new China was founded, traditional Chinese characters were widely used; it is also regarded as the complex written form. It is still used in HongKong and Taiwan province of China today. For about fifty years, simplified Chinese characters are widely used in the Chinese mainland and it becomes more and more popular now. It has fewer strokes than the complex form. Simplified form still maintains the basic structure of characters and it is much easier to master.

After you learned the development history of Chinese characters, you may have a basic concept of what Chinese characters are and have a good beginning of learning Chinese writing.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Apple Mao is an experienced Mandarin teacher, professional editor and author on the subject of online teaching and Chinese language e-book writing. Her website, http://www.AppleChineseOnline.com provides a wealth of Chinese learning ebooks and free audio courses on self-taught Chinese online, especially a very practical and easy-master Chinese character ebook which is suitable for anyone who is interested in learning Chinese reading and writing.

Today I will share a story with you that will help in learning Spanish online fast. You will also pick up some new Spanish words today. After I sent a recent email to my newsletter subscribers, I got a ton of emails from readers who completely disagreed with my statement that "the Spanish language has more words than the English language."

One reader wrote:

"Patrick, you have to be kidding. If I include scientific words the English language has more than a million words."

So does that mean there aren't any scientists in Latin America or Spain?

And another reader wrote:

"Patrick, your theory that the Spanish language has more words than English is full of holes:

Patrick, you wrote in English there's only one word for the room in the house where you sleep. And that word is bedroom. But in Spanish there are at least 6:

1. Habitación
2. Dormitorio
3. Cuarto
4. Pieza
5. Alcoba
6. Récamara

Patrick, you overlooked that in English we also use several different words for 'bedroom.' Instead of 'cuarto' and 'dormitorio,' in English we also use 'quarters' and 'dorm.'"

I don't know about anyone else but I have never referred to my "bedroom" as my "quarters" or my "dorm."

But the majority of the emails disagreed with me because they felt that I was saying that Spanish has more words because there are so many regional words in Spanish. And in different parts of the U.S., as well as the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean any other part of the world where English is the primary language (or one of the primary languages) people know regional English words that I don't know.

Maybe I should have said that I insist that Spanish has more commonly used everyday words. Now allow me to make myself clear...

I am not just referring to regional words. I am talking about words that all or most Spanish speakers are familiar with. Maybe all Spanish-speakers may not use the words alcoba, habitación, cuarto, récamara, and dormitorio but I am sure that most or all will understand that these words mean "bedroom."

The same applies with these three words.

1. baúl
2. maletero
3. cajuela

All Spanish-speakers may not use the words baúl, maletero and cajuela, but I am sure that most will understand that these words mean "trunk " as in "the trunk of a car."

Still not convinced that the Spanish language has more words?

I have made an interesting observation that I want to share with you. While here in Colombian, I have met MANY MANY Colombians who are learning English.

One thing that they all seem to say to me is "It is easier for us (Latinos) to learn English than it is for native English speakers to learn Spanish." Of course, I always ask "why?"

Not one Colombian has ever told me that it is easier for them to learn English than it is for a gringo to learn Spanish because Spanish-speakers seem to speak so much faster. And not one Colombian has ever told me that it is easier for them to learn English because conjugating Spanish verbs is so complicated. Each and every one of them has told me that English is easier to learn than Spanish because Spanish has more words.

Now I am sure that I will get at least one email from a reader who says "if Gringos say that English has more words and if Latinos say that it isn't true, that's enough proof for me. English has more words."

But I think my above observation helps to further illustrate that the Spanish language has more words than English.

How to Read So You Will Remember What You've Read

A lot of your homework is reading and often it is way too much to remember. Many students have a hard time remembering what they have read the next day and especially by test time. If you just read through everything quickly when it is assigned, you are going to have to read it all over again when you get ready for a test. There is an easier way. Here are some pointers:

Reading textbooks

Here is how to lighten the textbook reading load:

1. Read the Table of Contents when you first get your textbook. This listing in front of the book tells you where certain chapters are. The Table of Contents tells you, quickly, what the whole book is about. Read the Table of Contents before your next reading assignment. You'll get an idea of what has been covered already and what's coming up.

2. Read all the headings and bolded heavy black titles in a reading assignment twice. Do this once before you start the main reading and once after you have read the material. These heading s are clues about what you will be reading or have just read.

3. Read any questions listed at the end of the chapter before you read. This sounds like a backward way of doing things, but those questions alert you to important information and ideas in the reading.

4. Read through most of your reading assignments just once. But reread the following twice:

• Words in heavy black type - titles, headings.
• First and last sentences of each section under the heavy black type.
• Charts and pictures. The information in these are important enough to have an artist or photographer illustrate it.

5. Look up words you don't understand in your dictionary. Keep a dictionary by your side whenever you read.

6. Write down page numbers and sections you don't understand. If you are confused by some information, make note of it to ask your teacher the next day.

Reading Stories and Novels

These are usually easier and more fun to read. Read through fiction, stories, plays and novels once. If you don't understand what you have read, skim the material fast, then once again, slowly. Use your dictionary to look up words you don't know. When you finish a reading assignment on this kind of book, ask yourself these two questions:

1. Who were the main characters -the most important people in the book?

2. What were the three most important things that happened in what I just read?

You can write these answers down or do it in your own head. This only takes a couple of minutes and will definitely help you remember the book. Try It!

Cutting Out of Tongues During the Spanish Inquisition

The Inquisition started in southern France at the end of the 12th century. It was not until 1480 that the Spanish Inquisition began in earnest in Spain under Isabella I of Castile and Fernando II of Aragon, known after their marriage and during their reign as the Catholic Monarchs.

The Spanish Jews were the first to come under attack, in Isabella's own kingdom of Castile. The King and Queen, pursuing a policy of the physical unification of Spain but also a policy of spiritual unity to bring the country under one faith, forced the Jews to convert to Catholicism (when they became known as Conversos), executed them, or expelled them from the country. By 1492 there were Inquisitions in 8 different Castillian cities. In the 16th century Protestants were also targeted and by the 17th century it became the turn of the Muslims.

The friar, Tomas de Torquemada, was the first Inquisitor General. Apart from relatively tame endeavours, such as the censorship of heretic books, Spain also engaged in the many known practices of torture in an attempt to force heretics or blasphemers to convert to the Catholic faith in a country where previously Jews, Moors and Christians had lived together in relative peace.

The Tongue Tearer was a simple torture device. The mouth was forced open and the Tongue Tearer inserted to grab the tongue with grippers. A screw was tightened and the tongue ripped out. Some of these implements had staggered teeth which would also shred the tongue.

The cutting out of tongues was only one form of torture applied during the Inquisition and many worse devices were used. The Age of Enlightenment put a stop to the Inquisition but, sadly, not to religious fervour in general.

Spain is still today a Catholic country.

Speaking Advanced French - The Most Important Sentence Form in French

When learning a language, it is important to concentrate on the things you are most likely to hear, see and use. In French there is one simple two-word combination that is so common that you are guaranteed to hear it often in any conversation. It is based on:

ce + être it + to be

The most common form by far is: c'est 'it is'. The negative form is ce n'est pas or, in the spoken language, c'est pas. The much less common plural form is ce sont and ce ne sont pas. Other forms are c'était 'it was', ç'a été 'it has been' and ce sera 'it will'. Many readers will probably know the expression, C'est la vie 'Such is life'.

Looking at the banal translation 'it is', one could hardly imagine that this two-word contraction is such an important structure. This is because the French construction is used much more often than the equivalent translation in English. Let's look at some usages:

1. C'est + adjective

You can take any adjective and tack it on to c'est. Here is what some combinations would look like:

C'est bon 'It's good'

-- petit 'It's small"

-- délicieux 'It'sdelicious'

-- beau 'It's beautiful'

Notice how the masculine form of the adjective is always used with c'est.

These short phrases are very frequently used in conversations. C'est bon for example is very often used in the sense of O.K.

2. C'est + pronoun

C'est moi 'It's me / I'

-- toi 'It's you'

-- eux or Ce sont eux 'It's them / they'

-- quoi? 'What is it?'

Qui est-ce? 'Who is it?

3. C'est + noun

-- la vie 'It's life'

-- le soleil 'It's the sun'

-- le soir 'It's in the evening'

4. C'est + demonstratives

C'est ça 'This is it'

-- ceci 'It's this one'

-- bien ça 'That is correct'

5. C'est + proper noun

C'est Paris

-- Montréal

-- Pierre

6. C'est + past participle

C'est parti 'It has left'

-- terminé 'It's over'

-- mort 'It's dead'

-- fait 'It's done'

7. Ça y est

This an idiom that usually means 'it's over', 'at last' or 'that's it'. Here are two examples:

Ça y est! J'ai acheté la voiture. 'It's done. I bought the car.'

Ça y est! J'ai compris. 'That's it, I understood.'

8. All of the above forms can be modified with adverbs such as in:

C'était très bon 'It was very good'

Ce sera vite fait 'It will be done quickly'

C'est très bien dit 'It's well said'

9. The above forms are pretty straightforward and have many parallels in English. French does, however, have a special construction that does not occur in English. Instead of saying Le roi est moi 'The king is me", French adds emphasis with Le roi, c'est moi. This example would probably be best translated by 'I'm the king'. Here are some common examples:

La loi, c'est la loi. 'The law is the law.'

Le lait, c'est bon pour la santé. 'Milk is good for health.'

L'argent, c'est très utile. 'Money is useful.'

Le problème, ce n'est pas moi, c'est toi. 'The problem is not me, it's you.'

Trouver du travail, c'est pas facile. 'Finding work is not easy.'

Trois heures d'attente dans le froid, ce n'était pas drôle. 'Three hours waiting in the cold wasn't funny.'

Un parti politique, c'est des milliers de personnes. 'A political party is made up of thousands of people.'

10. Finally, there is a common construction with c'est + que 'it is that', as in:

C'est qu'il faut le voir pour le croire. 'It has to be seen to be believed.'

Le problème, c'est que je ne suis par certain. 'The problem is that I'm not certain.'

Do We Need to Modify Human DNA to Travel to the Stars - Long Term Space Exploration Thoughts

Not long ago, I was talking to a conspiracy theorist friend of mine, who is fully into the whole UFO concept, and aliens from outer space. In fact he travels to Roswell once a year for their annual convention and anniversary of the Roswell Incident. He is a fun person to talk to, as long as I don't have to talk to him for too long, because he gets really into the conspiracy thing.

Nevertheless, the other day over coffee I asked him what if the aliens from Roswell are not actually aliens at all, what if they are genetically engineered species created by humans for long-term space travel? What if they are us or they share our DNA, and were created by us in the future and sent back to past periods. And what if they were doing fine in their time travels but unfortunately their spaceship crash when it entered the radar field area which disrupted their anti-gravitational system or their propulsion system, causing them to crash land in Roswell?

After I asked him this question, because as you probably realize I am a science fiction reader, I just smiled and leaned back, to hear what he had to say. Oh, he was livid, he sees this alien encounter as a great conspiracy, almost as if it's a religion of some kind, it's totally bizarre. Still, the question that I had put forth is worth thinking about. Not from a conspiracy theorist standpoint, but rather from a science fiction standpoint of what we might have to do with the future if we want to travel to the stars.

Humans have too many bones for zero gravity space flight long-term, they really don't handle radiation very well and there is a lot of radiation in space. Humans also eat too much for long-term space flight. However if we could solve those problems through genetic engineering we could send people or genetically engineered species which are almost like humans to do the exploration for us.

Maybe NASA should be thinking here (hint: they already are), and maybe we can use whatever we learn to help modified human DNA to use less energy here on Earth, to eat less, and get rid of some of things we don't need. For instance, we don't need a tailbone, and our feet look pretty funny considering that we wear shoes. There are a lot of things on the human body that are not exactly what we need to survive here on this planet, and these things could be modified, which would make our lives easier and more adaptable.

It would also make sense to do this for those that want to live in space colonies so they can survive for long periods of time without those same conditions that are here on Earth. We should study this, even if we choose not to genetically modified humans in the future. Merely because what we learn can help with future health care, and the health of all humans on this planet.

Let's face it, the transfer technologies from NASA research has transformed the way we live and work. It is amazing and no one can deny that much of our modern amenities have come from space research, such as materials used in everyday life, to the technology in our air-conditioning systems cars. Indeed, much transfer technology also comes from the military tech research; the Internet, Satellites, nuclear power, and jet aircraft transportation.

Anyway, I hope you will please consider all this.

The Highly Recommendable System in Language Learning

The world is constantly changing its pace of development, isn't' it? Since we exist in the world if explicit modernization packed with high technology and the internet dependence, it is no longer surprising that language methods get innovated from time to time.

If you are a learner who happens to browse the internet, you will find a wide array of online language courses offered by different websites. These sites can offer free or paid services, depending on the kind of lessons you would like to learn. Online methods are in the form of downloaded lessons, Cds, DVDs, and printed or electronic books. And of course, aside from the fact that it is the most modern way known at present, this has become the most convenient and practical way.

But the question is, does language learning online surpass the conventional learning method like the learning applied in classrooms? Which do you think is the most recommendable system? Let's discuss the advantage and disadvantages of both choices.

In terms of accessibility, online lessons actually get this score because learners-from working to home based-are able to study anytime, anywhere! Learners can choose their own schedule and availability as long as they have complete access with the internet. This is not surprising anymore because almost everybody is accessible to internet-connected computers already. Unlike the classroom setting, learners are ought to take lessons in the classroom, and this alone plays a tiresome thought of teacher-student period. Also, a person who is interested in learning a foreign language will double his effort in finding his suitable language school especially when there isn't any language school near his place. It's either he will go to another city or to go abroad just to study.

However, the point of interaction is scored by the classroom system. Even if online courses promote conversations to other learners through chatting and voice messaging, classroom set up is still the best interaction. Since one of the essential factors of language learning is the speaking component, teachers in language schools promote constant usage of the learned language through immerse interaction. Aside from that, students can easily ask clarifications and answers to their queries straight to the teachers.

Now, let's tackle about features of the language lessons themselves. The fact that online and classroom lessons have free and paid courses because this varies the type of lessons they teach to the students. This is not to discriminate free courses but it is undeniable that is has a lesser quality compared to those paid courses. Are you the practical type of learner who prefers the cheaper way of learning foreign languages? Online learning actually has less expenditure compared to classroom lessons. But if you prefer for quality and reliable language lessons, you will choose which you think is better between the two.

So which do you think is the more recommendable system? Is it the modern and practical online language learning or the conventional but proven-effective classroom language learning? Whether you choose one of these two, always remember that this is based on your learning abilities and interest that is appropriate to your level of knowledge.

How to Find Quality In-Home Tutoring for Your Child

Finding an in-home tutoring for your child can be a daunting task, especially if you do not know where to look for the same. The problem with quality in-home tutoring is that there are very less tutors available who take private tuitions, especially if you have a kid at home. And those which are available for the same might ask for astronomical salaries because they take the job to be more like baby - sitting than teaching/tutoring the child. And as a matter of fact, small kids actually do not need much tutoring but more mentoring - that can be provided by the parents themselves.

• Searching for Quality: Remember, since an in-home tutor would be spending a considerable time with your child, it would be wise on your part to look for someone whose basics are as strong as their ethics. A good tutor is supposed to be mentor to your child first. Coupled with knowledge, they could actually become ideal role models for your child.

Whatever your child learns in its formative years would decide later who they become. That means that the tutor is supposed to 'plant' the goal in an effortless manner in your child.

• Knowledge: Since children are the most inquisitive people in the world, a tutor must be well-equipped to answer all the queries put forward to him by your child; they should also have the ability to explain complex stuff to your child as easily as possible. That calls for knowledgeable in-house tutors who stay updated with topics and subjects that they specialize in.

These are the 2 most important qualities that you should look in an in-house tutor. Apart from that, you searching for the same should actually be like a plan.
That is:

• Power of Local: Local people are the best resource that you could get for searching of quality in-home tutoring. Consider this - people/parents who had actually have had an in-house tutor recently would be better equipped to help you than someone who knows nothing on the same (maybe his child is as old as you!). In all probability, the old tutor would not be an in-house tutor anymore! But you can also ask for their help to look for quality tutors - since they were in this business, there is a good chance that they could be a part of such a network.

Local newspapers are also known to do their bit!

• Internet: In-house tutoring could also be found on the internet. Freelancers often leave their advertisements on the internet and social networking sites - that is where you could look for. Join internet tutoring groups and forums for a better insight on the same.

Most of the quality in-home tutoring seems to have been concentrated only for the students pursuing higher studies or are in high school. There is very less quality in-home tutoring available for primary and junior school children. However you must not lose heart - if you follow these steps, you could easily get yourself a good in-home tutor help.

Get your child the help that they need with the help of a in-home tutor. Help them succeed in their studies and life.

Recharging - Information on the Solar Cell

The sun supplies the needed energy for the solar cell. Transformation of the sun's energy allows a photovoltaic cell to possess a certain amount of potential energy. That transformation occurs when sunlight hits the two layer solar powered battery.

The sun's rays activate the electrons in each of the battery's two layers. In the "p layer," the activated electrons create a "hole" in the molecular structure. In the "n layer," the activated electrons become a way for an electrical current to be created. The electrons are released from the atom and thus have the ability to travel to a new location. The available "holes" manage to attract the free electrons.

A flow of electrons creates an electric current. When wires are attached to the solar powered battery, then they pick up the batteries current and carry it to wherever the wires are attached. If they lead to the window on a calculator, then they alter the digital reading in that window.

Now as the potential energy in a solar cell becomes an electrical type of kinetic energy, then the activated electrons slowly disappear. Their total disappearance causes creation of a "dead" cell. Conversion of that cell's condition demands completion of a recharging process. In order to prevent possible complications during the conversion, manufacturers use carefully selected mixtures of metals in the cell's layers.

Sometimes they use of mix of metals that contains copper indium gallium selenide. Sometimes they use a mixture that contains the metal copper indium selenide. Introduction of those newer metals is changing the nature of the photovoltaic cell. Of course scientists continue to experiment with various other metals. In the future another type of mixing could lead to creation of a new way to make use of the sun's energy.

With this basic knowledge, learn more about solar cells, solar panels, and solar panel uses.

Astral Projection - How to Leave Your Body Willingly

Everyone leaves their body at night though not all remember; to be conscious when it happens is truly wonderful. The title is really a play on words, 'willingly' implies that one is not forced out of their body leaving with no objection, it could also mean that one leaves their body on purpose, ie. they 'will' themselves out.

I have heard from people who find themselves astral projecting and they don't really want to be, for some reason it is something they can't stop though they want to. I have also heard from people who would like to learn to will themselves out of their body. For the people who leave their bodies spontaneously the only way to come to terms with it, if you are not comfortable with these experiences, is to learn all you can about the astral realms. In this way much of the fear and uncertainty will disappear. There are many benefits to out-of-body experiences and it is worth all the effort to overcome any fear issues.

Astral projecting at will involves dedication, commitment and consistency. You need to programme yourself to learn the skill and practise techniques, just like you would practise any other skill you wished to learn. When we first learn to swim we have to get used to the water, we have to become accustomed to how the water feels and we have to learn to float. We start off with a few simple strokes and gradually we get better and better but we must keep up the lessons and keep up the practice. Learning Astral Projection is the same as learning any other skill except that this skill takes us into our selves, deep into who we really are.

So the first thing we have to have is desire, we have to want to astral project, then we have to start to go deeper into who we are. We can do that by looking at our dreams, writing down each one in as much detail as possible, this will help dream recall and so will aid our astral projection memory. We also need to choose a technique which is most suitable to us, there are many books written on Astral Projection and Out-of-Body Experiences that describe many different techniques. Choose the one that suits you. Consistency and commitment are essential, don't give up, you have to be diligent in practice and know that you can astral project. There is no room for doubt.

We all astral project at night so basically we have to try to stay awake, keep our minds awake, in order to consciously go with the experience and bring back the memory afterwards. Remembering our dreams is the first step in the direction of successful astral projection. We need to commit ourselves to our goal and continually work towards it.

Mud Weight and Its Importance for The Drilling Operation

Mud weight or mud density is one of the important drilling fluid properties because it balances and controls formation pressure. Moreover, it also helps wellbore stability. Weight of drilling mud is measured and reported in pounds per gallon (PPG), pound per cubic feet (lb/cu.ft), or grams per milliliter (b/ml).

Mud density is normally measured by a conventional mud balance; however, if you have some air inside a fluid phase, reading from the conventional mud balance will give you an inaccurate number. Therefore, the most accurate method to measure the mud weight is with a pressurized mud balance.

The pressurized mud balance looks like the convention one, but it has a pressurized sample cup. When you press mud sample in the cup, any gas in fluid phase is compressed to very small volume so the mud weight measurement is more accurate.

What will be happened if there is insufficient drilling fluid density?

1. Well control - The well will be in an under balance condition so any formation fluids - gas, oil, and water- will enter into the wellbore.

2. Wellbore collapse (wellbore instability) - the wellbore will possibly become unstable, if the hydrostatic pressure provided by a mud column is below formation pressure.

What will be happened if the mud weight is too high?

1. Lost circulation - If the hydrostatic pressure from mud column exceeds formation strength, it will cause formation to break. Once the formation is broken, the drilling fluids will lose into the induced formation fractures.

2. Decrease in rate of penetration - The more density you have while drilling, the less ROP will be. Practically, while drilling, low mud weight is used at the beginning and weight will be increased as the well is drilled deeper in order to optimize ROP.

3. Stuck pipe - Since there are differences between the formation pressure and the hydrostatic pressure, there will be a lot of chances that a drill string will get differentially stuck across permeable rocks.

4. Formation damage - The more mud weight is in the well, the more mud filtration invades into porous formations. The invaded mud will cause damage to formation rocks.

Integrating Technology in the Classroom on a Small Budget

Modern classrooms differ greatly from those that students attended just 15 years ago. Although textbooks are still considered a chief source for learning, technology is now considered fundamental to preparing students for entrance into adult careers. Yet the benefits aren't only long-term ones. Studies show improved student achievement and self-concept, attitude and teacher-student interaction in classrooms when technology is employed as an alternative method of learning.

There is some good news and bad news when it comes to integrating technology in the classroom. The bad news is, classroom technology can be costly, which is especially challenging for educators in light of diminishing school budgets. Technology is often one of the first programs cut. However, the good news is there are ways to integrate technology in your classroom without breaking the bank. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Use what you have - Think outside the box when it comes to your computer. Most older students probably already know how to message or email on their home computers. But do they know how to access programs that will help them with homework or project presentations? Offer students the opportunity to give book reports or presentations using PowerPoint. Show younger students how to use Windows Paint or Kid Pix to draw illustrations for units they are studying. They could draw a map of a famous battle they are studying in history, show the correct number of something for math concepts, or illustrate a plant species and its anatomy for science. When technology is integrated in the classroom daily, learning will be enhanced as students become comfortable with using a variety of programs. And since work can be saved to a disk or a thumb drive, less paper and other supplies will be wasted with classroom projects.

Infinite library - The internet offers a virtually unlimited "library" of information, most of it offered free of charge. Yet sometimes it can be a challenge to find the information you need. Give students practice using your class computer's search feature by encouraging them to find information on the internet. Present an argument and challenge students to find information about the topic. Have them include supporting statements from credible advocates on both sides of the issue, adding their own opinion at the end. Students will learn how to search difficult topics, realize there is always more than one side to a story and teach them about finding credible sources for the information they need. Students can also create trivia questions about a unit topic by finding information on corporate or government websites. They can explore their own state by going to the state website or learn more about business by reading the "about us" tab of a corporation or organization they are interested in.

Wii remote whiteboard - If you have a computer with Bluetooth capabilities, a Wii remote control, a computer project screen (recommended), and a few inexpensive electronics, you can create a whiteboard for your classroom. Instructions for this project can be found at: http://www.techintheclassroom.com/7/cheap-whiteboard-using-a-wii-remote.

CNA Certification Can Be the Stepping Stone in Your Career

Finding a job these days is hard by itself let alone, a job that you enjoy. In fact, you can spend many years in a job and find that you are just not happy where you are. This is why it is so important that you have options because, nobody wants to get stuck in a dead end job that they are unhappy with. Nursing is one job that is always exciting and there is always something new to learn, always something to do. You might think that it is difficult to become a nurse but in actuality, it's not. You can even start out in another healthcare position first to see if you enjoy working in the field or not. One good position to try out in the nursing field is the certified nursing aide (CNA). This is because this position requires less time to get into, will allow you a trial of the medical field and can also be a stepping stone in your career.

The CNA position starts out with a nurse training program that is usually given at a local vocational school, college or nursing school. They are also sometimes offered in other medical facilities as well. This training is required in order for you to get your certification and work as a CNA. The good thing though is that the training only takes between 3 months to a year, you don't need a college degree and it can be completely paid for you if you are going to be working in the same year when you complete the training.

After you finish training, you will have a short certification exam to take which typically is around 3 hours long and is made of written questions as well as an active test. Although, the test simply covers what you learned in training so it is stuff you will already be familiar with. It's that simple, your training, the exam and then you are registered and can start working right away towards your perfect career.

Because the CNA works closely with registered nurses and other medical staff, you will have a very good chance to get to know the medical field. Once you decide that this is where you want to be, it's very easy to go for a little schooling (between 2-4 years) and become a nurse, practitioner or any other position in the medical field. Since you will already be familiar with the field, you won't have any trouble fitting right into your new career.

If your interested in getting your cna certification and would like to know more check out the cna training directory for local school listings.

Act Like It All Counts - Student Success Tip for Getting Great Results in and Out of School

Here's a student success tip to help you get great results.

When you were a kid playing games with friends, maybe you had an agreement that there would be times when your kid sister got in the way when it was your turn to go, and you got another chance at it.

In the world of children, those are called "do overs." In the world of adults, we don't usually get those "do overs." We're held accountable now and suddenly, it seems as though everything counts. And you know what? It does!

Everything you do adds up to the results you get. If you stay up later on video games, there will be a result. If you take time to study the right way at the right times, you get another result.

We all need to face the fact sooner or later that it's a cause and effect world. We reap what we sow. Some people call this the "Law of the Harvest." I like that. When you plant tomatoes, you can't expect that peas will pop up.

Want to know the truth? Most people never fully get this. And if they do, they behave as though they don't. People tend to believe that good things that happen to them come as a result of hard work and bad things that happen are bad luck.

Take a closer look. It's a cause and effect world. Ask yourself, "will this action bring the result I want?" Then, open your eyes, heart and mind and make the choice that's best for you.

5 Tips to Collaboration Success in the Online Classroom

Collaboration is a key component to learning new objectives in the online classroom. Many may think that it is difficult for students to collaborate when they are unable to meet face to face. However, over the past decade, collaboration has become a requirement for graduating students. Although there can be many challenges when collaborating in the online classroom, success can be attained in online groups.

The following list outlines 5 tips to collaboration success in the online classroom!

1) Post availability schedule for group members - In the online classroom there can be students from all parts of the country. It is important for students to post their availability in the form of timezones as well as classroom access schedule. This is especially beneficial for group work because students can plan for meetings and assignment due dates.

2) Remain professional at all times, especially in instances when there are personality conflicts - In groups there is almost always a incident where there are personality conflicts. We are all human! This means that we may or may not get along with the group members we have been given. The key is to remember to remain professional when there is a conflict and work past the incident for the greater good of completing the project.

3) Keep the instructor engaged in group progress - Staying in contact with your instructor will allow your group to have a sense of "accountability". Accountability can bring out the best in students, especially in an online environment. Try to keep your instructor engaged by creating "meeting minutes" for any meetings help, and posting weekly statuses. This will help your instructor to stay engaged in "who's-doing-what" and keep everyone on task.

4) Maintain clear documentation for group meetings - This step and Step 3 are similar and can be managed together. Groups should maintain clear documentation for goals accomplished, outstanding goals and group status. This documentation can be presented to the instructor as well as maintained by the group project manager to make sure everyone is on task.

5) Volunteer - In a group project scenario there will be deliverables due. If there are specific deliverables that are outstanding don't be afraid to volunteer! After all, the goal is to gain as much knowledge from the project as possible. Don't be afraid to add your expertise and volunteer for the difficult tasks. In the long run, it will benefit you by adding experience to your portfolio.

Roswell Alien Sightings Bring Focus to Extraterrestrial Debate

The Roswell alien sightings captured the attention of the American public and brought this unexplained phenomena to the forefront of the public debate about the existence of extraterrestrials. Made famous by a UFO crash in 1947, Roswell has become a place where UFO researchers and enthusiasts continue to debate the existence of actual aliens on the site and whether the government covered up the story.

Many theories about the Roswell incident abound, however, it is commonly believed that the crash yielded physical evidence of a UFO as well as deceased alien beings that were taken from the site by the government. The United States military continues to assert that the crash was by one of our own aircraft and fragments recovered were part of that craft. The idea that our own military caused the crash is believed to be a cover-up due in part to the Majestic 12, an investigative organization tasked to study alien sightings and the activities of UFOs visiting Earth. This secret group was formed by President Truman. The U.S. government denies that the Majestic 12 ever existed. Supporters of the UFO conspiracy believe that denial of the existence of this committee is part of the entire governmental cover-up.

Although the government may have potential secret groups studying alien sightings, there are modern day researchers openly studying the possibilities of extraterrestrials visiting our planet. According to some of this research, scientists have traced alien sightings as far back as ancient China. Perhaps this ancient connection to aliens has more recently made China a hot spot for UFO sightings. Many believe that the Chinese have been visited by aliens for thousands of years.

An exciting find occurred in 1938 when archeologists uncovered a cave system in the mountainous region between Tibet and China. Inside the burial cave, they found rows of tombs and in each one a skeleton with a round, one foot wide stone disc. These discs later become known as Dropa Stones. The Dropa Stones were carved with pictures that are estimated to be 12,000 years old. They also included inscriptions with hieroglyphs that tell a story of aliens that crashed and were stranded there. The surviving aliens hid in the caves of the region until the survivors were hunted down and killed by the locals.

The unexplained phenomena of Dropa Stones, alien sightings and UFO crashes only further creates interest in this controversial topic. It will only be a matter of time before continued research into UFO and alien sightings will bring about the proof to determine if aliens do exist.

Unique perspectives about alien sightings can be found at Alien Sightings and also visit my blog Alien Abductions Exposed.
