The Rider Waite Smith deck of Tarot Cards are numbered from 0 (zero) to 22 (twenty two) in the Major Arcana. Tarot cards have a strong correlation with both Astrology and Numerology and knowledge of these subjects can add considerable depth to your Tarot Card Readings.
Astrology
In Astrology, the Lovers card is represented by the planet Venus, which governs the signs of Taurus and Libra.
Venus indicates love, beauty, harmony, relationships, partnerships, romance, relatedness and balance.
Venus governs the 2nd house of the astrological chart, which is ruled by Taurus and this is to do with possessions and strong emotional feelings. The second house also points to stability in life, particularly around the home and family. The 7th house, ruled by Libra, is about partnerships and relationships. These are generally long-term, stable relationships.
Taurus brings stability, a love of finer things in life, money, food, sex and emotional security. Taureans generally make sensual lovers, although they can be stubborn and possessive.
Librans have a great sense of fairness and justice. They are generally gentle, friendly, tactful and charming, although they can become indecisive and be trying so hard to please that they can find it hard to say No to others.
Numerology
The Lovers card is represented by the Number 6 and all the qualities we have already discussed in the astrology section are relevant to this number. People who are ruled by the number six express themselves through art, beauty, colour and harmony. They are warm and compassionate and have a desire to serve others in some way.
One of the symbols of the number 6 is the 6 pointed star, where there are two triangles. One triangle points towards heaven and the other toward earth, symbolising the unity of the highest and most fundamental ideals.
One triangle is the symbol of the masculine fire and the other is the symbol of the feminine water, which when combined form a unity of two principles. This unity then creates a third element, which is more powerful than each of the two elements separately.
The Lovers Card in the Rider Waite Smith deck of Tarot Cards is a card of the power that can be released when two forces, complementary and yet different, come together in harmony, co-operation and creation.
In its purest form, the power and the drive that comes from physical and sexual energy can be immense. When taken with the idea of harmony, co-operation and a desire to serve and help others, the combined power of Tarot, Astrology and Numerology makes this a very strong card to see in a reading.
It is not just about Sex and the physical aspects of a relationship. There is a lot more value that can come from a real understanding of the Lovers Card.
