Explore Possible Careers With A Criminal Justice Degree Introductory Class

Introduction to Criminal Justice discusses the historical, philosophical and sociological progression of the three institutions - police, courts and corrections - that make-up the criminal justice system in America. By defining and analyzing these three components, students in a criminal justice program will discover which arena would best suit their interests and aspirations.

The first part of the justice system that offenders will encounter is law enforcement. They are the link that begins the chain and it is often considered the most essential division of the system. Students will learn about the history and structure of law enforcement in America. They will also learn about the various functions, operational styles and roles of the policing system.

Police are charged with enforcing the law and maintaining the peace. Students will discover the many contexts that require the services of the police force. On an analytical note, students will understand the philosophical and the psychological elements that are involved with working effectively in this field.

The judicial system is the next arena an offender will encounter after being dealt with by the police force. Professionals working in this capacity will find jobs as lawyers (defense attorney and prosecutor), judges, and so forth. In the United States, our system is adversarial, meaning a case is argued by two parties on opposing sides, in order to establish a person's (or company's) guilt or innocence.

Of course, students will be informed of how this system began and the principles that drive its use. Students will also learn the logistics of sentencing, appeals and the various penalties that can be involved with sentencing. There are a lot of criticisms involved in the trial process, such as discrimination and coercion; these and many more will be addressed in an introductory criminal justice course.

Corrections is the phase in which sentencing is enacted and this course will seek to summarize the development of the corrections systems. Offenders will face their punishment for the crimes they have committed and prisons are the most common institution within the corrections department.

Corrections also faces a lot of criticisms regarding how effective these institutions are and what improvements can be made in order to improve productivity. Students will learn about the trends regarding incarceration rates and the varying incarceration facilities. Students will get an inside look at prison life and the rights that are given to inmates. Students will also take a look at other forms of corrections, such as probation and parole, which are less severe forms of control and reformation.

An introductory criminal justice course will give students a great deal of information on how to navigate the justice system. If you are interested in careers with a criminal justice degree, this course could give you the insight on whether to pursue this degree program. If you know this is the field for you, spend some time learning which scholarships can help you achieve your goal.

Tips on Using Text to Speech for ESL/EFL Students

When you are learning a new language such as English, the method may not be an effortless one. Nevertheless since the development of the text to speech applications the process of learning has become easier for the teacher as well as the student.

· A TTS user can choose to convert almost any text. Ex: Text from RSS feed or Text from various kinds of documents.;
· Some services allow you to adjust the speed and pace of the audio generated.;
· A student can download the mp3 to their favorite mp3 player and listen to it on the go.

One of the constraints when using the text to speech programs is that they require a fast computer. Although today's computers are equipped with new and faster technology not all EFL and ESL student may have the means with which to have access to a newer and faster computer. Also, the files generated by the desktop programs are locally stored and not available from other computers. An online text to speech service can help the students overcome these limitations.

In order to help the EFL and ESL students learn to speak and read in English there are some tips to assist them in the use of these programs efficiently;

Make a listing of words that are usually difficult to pronounce and work on these words.;
Make a listing of sentences, convert them to speech and listen to them.;
· Together with another EFL or ESL student prepare short dialogues and listen to them. Again make all proper corrections until you both pronounce the words correctly; and
· Make it a daily habit to read newspapers and magazines with the help of an online text to speech service.

This is only a short list of tips to help the EFL and ESL student to learn to use the English language. Students can create their own tips as they learn and also an online text to speech service that helps them in the learning process.

AIEEE Online Examination - A Boon for Engineering Aspirants

The online features are not new to AIEEE, as it has already accomplished many facilities like, online application, online counseling, etc... but his time, it is going much beyond the boundaries, i.e. the entire AIEEE examination would be conducted via online like the Common Admission Test. This is a reforming concept in the engineering cadre and would get into practice from the year 2011 onwards. Of course the new version of AIEEE that is to be conducted via online is breathtaking and it would further enhance the efficiency at which the exam is conducted at present, but at the same time, it might have some negative points too:

  • Since, it is conducted online, a system based examination pattern should be accomplished. Thus, the entire examination pattern would be automated, except for the identity verification procedures and monitoring procedures. Because of this, the usage of man power could be reduced.
  • In the existing AIEEE pattern, once the students complete the examination, the answer sheets would be corrected by the teachers and lecturers from prominent/renowned schools/colleges and the results would be announced after 10 to 15 days of time. During this time period, the students could get panicked, as they cannot decide anything and would have no clue, regarding the results. Such practically difficult situations would be avoided in the new scheme of AIEEE.
  • Nobody knows, whether there would also be percentile results, similar to CAT. The percentile result displays the position of a student in the examination, based on the comparison of the marks scored by other students. Hence, if a student scores 75% in math, then it means the student has done better, when compared to other 75% students, who had in turn attended the examination.
  • Whatever is been fed into the system that would be considered as solution and the answers would be corrected based on that. Since, there is no necessity for correcting any essay type answers, and reasoning type answers, this system would be effective on accomplishing the results, immediately.
  • But the students would not be provided with the chances to revise and go back to the previous sections, if it similar to the exam pattern of CAT. If it not established in the similar pattern of CAT and if the students could revise and edit the section (if any) that they have attended, earlier, then nothing like that, if not then the students would suffer. As in the present existing exam pattern of AIEEE, which is just a paper -pencil format, the student could revise the questions and could also edit the answers.
  • Even if the AIEEE is executed online, the AIEEE pattern for the architecture streams, like B. Arch/B. Planning, consists of engineering drawing, as one of the entrance examination question papers for which they have to implement the same pattern of CAT, GMAT in which the essays would be evaluated manually and the results of the essays would be published one week later than the main entrance examination. If at all, if CBSE is implementing the same pattern to correct the engineering drawing paper for the architecture streams, then it should be evaluated without errors, which in turn gets added to the category of 'extra care'/'addition work'.

Vocabulary Games and Practice: Different Ways To Study Vocabulary

Vocabulary games and practice can be interesting if done properly. There are various ways with which you can really make the exercise of learning new words exciting for children as well as for adults. The most common word game that is played by people is the one in which a key letter is given to the participants. In the first place you are asked to make four lettered words in which the key letter is present. The words which you make should be proper and ought to have meanings. In the next round you are asked to make five letter words and consecutively the letter count increases to six and seven respectively. With these kinds of vocabulary games and practice not only your stock of words improves but also your thinking power improves and becomes faster.

There are several vocabulary games and practice which you can find in the net and these games are used by classrooms to improve the stock of words of the children. When the students are involved in such exercises they do not feel the burden of learning. They are more excited about the fun part of the game and in the process they improve their stock of words. There may be several ways to improve ones vocabulary like reading books, taking professional classes and a lot more but these vocabulary exercises are really effective for a person who is trying to improve his/her stock of words. There are several websites which are dedicated alone to the improvement of word power. These sites always encourage people to improve their academic vocabulary with the help of vocabulary games and practice.

These vocabulary games and practice emphasize on the connecting of vocabulary with ideas or associating the words with different pictures. That way people are able to remember the words in a better manner. The games are so interesting especially in case of English language that people who do not have English as their mother tongue can benefit from these games to a large extent.

Songs can be a good practice to improve the vocabulary of children. When you sing a song especially in front of the children they gradually pick up the words which you use in the songs. In this process the children gets more involved in the learning processed in a proactive manner.

Some of the other vocabulary games and practice which can be used based on the age of the children are as follows. In the first place for children aged more than five years of age you can use the alphabet game whereby the first player names an object which starts with the letter "A". The word which he/she says should be something which they are able to see right at that moment. The game continues in the manner that the second player names an object with the letter, "B" and so on.

The word guessing game can be one of the effective vocabulary games and practice. In fact that is a good exercise of your mind as well. A player thinks of a word and announces the other players that the word has four letters. In response to this the other player tries to guess a word. If that word matches it is fine if not then the player tries to make comparison with the actual word thought of and the word which was given out by the other players. In this way the game continues for some time. This game can be played with children those are more than six years of age. The other game which is played is "find the letter game".

Quality Psychic Readings - How Much Should I Pay?

Does a really good psychic reading need to cost a fortune?

That's the BIGGEST question I see asked by psychic junkies from one side of the globe, to the other. Everyone wants a quality reading with a celebrity style psychic... but very few of us have the money we THINK we need to make it happen.

If you are thinking along these terms, you would be wrong. (in a good way!)

Why?

I can tell you, with complete and unequivocal honesty, what I've learned in 20 years of psychic readings, research and writing about ALL things paranormal, there is very little relationship between the cost of a clairvoyant, and the quality of their ability.

As a matter of fact, if you have read anything I've written in the past on the subject, you probably already know that my FAVORITE reading ever cost about $18. My worst? Many, many multiples of that amount.

Here is what I recommend you do if you're just getting started, or need immediate psychic help, and aren't sure how much you should pay:

NEVER invest a large sum in a psychic reading based entirely on word of mouth, or advertising, or desperation for instant answers. Always start small, test a reader for truth, accuracy and rapport before you invest any amount over $50. (or even much less - establish your own personal comfort zone, and let that guide you)

Avoid free services. They are rarely FREE and almost never good. (there is always a catch)

Find reputable services that offer DEEP discounts for your first call - or first session. If you know how to find them, there are GREAT psychics available to "test" for as low as $10 if it's your first time. (I recommend setting aside a budget of $15-$20, just because that gives you a bit more time to decide if you connect with that particular psychic or service)

My BEST advice?

Remember to ENJOY yourself as well. A quality psychic reading can be a life changing experience. Invest 10 or 20 dollars in your future.....put yourself in good hands, and let the universe take care of the rest.

How to Improve Your American Accent? The Right Approach

Are you looking for some tips on how to improve your American accent? If so, read on. I'm going to talk about one of the most important things: the right approach to learning an American accent.

Many people don't have the right approach and that's why they speak with a strong foreign accent. Don't be one of these people. Here are three things that you need to know.

1. It takes a lot of time

And that's why most people don't improve their accents. You can't learn an accent overnight. It usually takes months to notice a great improvement. However rest assured that you'll eventually learn an accent if you work on it on a daily basis. It's all about a regular practice.

2. You need to live through American English

I like to say "live through a language" instead of "immerse yourself in a language". Many English learners don't immerse themselves in American English - they listen to music in their native language, watch movies or TV in their native language, interact only with people who speak their native language. How do you want to learn an Accent if you don't listen to it regularly?

3. It can be done

Some people think that it's impossible to improve their accent. They say that they are "too old", that you can't learn an accent and that you'll always speak with a foreign accent. There are some actors who speak English as a second language and it's difficult to tell if they are native American speakers or not. It can be done, really. It just takes a lot of time and practice.

That's it - three super important tips that will help you improve your American accent. Don't neglect your approach to learning an accent - it's very important.

How to Learn Spanish Words and Phrases Online Fast and Easy

If you want to know how to learn Spanish words and phrases online fast and easy, I have made an interesting observation about the Spanish language that I want to share with you. In Spanish, you can add the ending "ada" or "azo" to the name of a body part to describe a "blow" or "strike" to that body part. Or in some cases, a "blow" or "strike" using that body part.

Here are few examples:

puñetazo -- punch
puño -- fist

palmada - slap
palma - palm

nalagada -- spanking
nalga -- buttocks

patada -- kick
pata -- foot of an animal ("pie" refers to the foot of a human)

codazo -- a strike or blow using the elbow
codo -- elbow

rodillazo -- a strike or blow using the knee
rodilla -- the knee

cachetada -- slap or smack to the cheeks using the back of the hand
cachetes -- cheeks

"Cachetes" is more of a Colombian word. In other parts of Latin America you are more likely to hear "mejillas" for cheeks. But in most parts of Latin America, they are familiar with the word "cachetada."

Here's another one:

calbazo -- smack to the head
cabeza -- head

Calbazo is a "paisa" term. That is, a term that you will only hear used in Medellin, Colombia.

I saw a funny video on YouTube titled "Calbazo" with a Colombian school kid giving his unsuspecting friend a "calbazo" to the back of his "cabeza."

Well I guess whether or not you'll find it funny really depends on your "sentido del humor" (sense of humor). By the way, in some cases you can even add "ada" to the name of an object to to describe a "blow" or "strike" using that object.

Por ejemplo (for example),

puñalada -- stab or stab wound
puñal -- dagger or knife

I just thought that how the ending "ada" or "azo" is used in the Spanish language was something interesting that I'd like to share with you.

The High Priestess - Colours and Symbols in The Rider Waite Smith Deck of Tarot Cards

The High Priestess card in the Rider Waite Smith deck of Tarot Cards is rich in colour and symbolism. These are important because they can add extra depth and meaning to your readings.

Colours of the High Priestess Card

The card is mostly blue, indicating deep emotions. Like a deep pool of water, these are well hidden and the surface appears calm and unruffled.

Blue is the colour of the throat chakra, which represents communication. To speak your truth in the external world requires you to first access and acknowledge that truth within you.

The pillars are a contrasting black and white, with the letters B and J contrasting with the pillar they are placed on.

This is the contrast and the duality between the male and female, in and yang, positive and negative, material and spiritual. One cannot exist without the other, and when in harmony, complement each other.

The white of her robes and of her crown indicate spirituality and a connection both with yourself and your Divine Source.

Symbols of the High Priestess

It must be remembered that the Rider Waite Smith deck of Tarot Cards were designed in 1905 by Arthur Waite as a tool for instruction and learning for the members of the Order of the Golden Dawn. This was an esoteric offshoot of Freemasonry.

The High Priestess is a card that contains symbolism from some the world's major religions, as well as symbols that pre-date our current civilization and symbols from the teachings of Freemasonry.

The pillars are said to be from the entrance to King Solomon's temple in Jerusalem. The letters B and J stand for the words Boaz and Jachin.

Although it is not clear from biblical texts, exactly what these words mean, it is thought that Boaz is "to establish" and Jachin is "strength."

Pillars represent a gateway between one world and another. In this case it is between the external world of our conscious mind and the internal world of our unconscious mind.

The veil between the pillars is that thin veil between the conscious and the unconscious, between sleeping and waking, between our inner and outer selves. Both aspects need to be integrated.

The Book of Torah that she holds in her lap is said to be the 5 books of Moses, or the book of knowledge. It is only partially hidden, which suggests that the inner knowledge that we seek is much closer and more accessible than we think it is.

The Moon Crown represents the Egyptian goddess Isis, who was the mother of the sun god Horus.

The moons on either side and the sun in the middle are symbolic of Horus waiting to be born.

The crown shows the 3 phases of the Moon- waxing, waning and full (or new, which is also a full circle).

In Christian tradition the moon at her feet is a symbol of the Virgin Mary, otherwise called Stella Maris or Star of the Sea.

The Pomegranates on the veil are an interesting symbol and have been woven into the cloaks and robes of royalty and high ranking Church officials for centuries..

It is said that King Solomon designed his coronet based on the pomegranate's "crown" (calyx).

Jewish tradition teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol for righteousness, because it is said to have 613 seeds which corresponds with the 613 mitzvot or commandments of the Torah.

In Christianity, the fruit, broken or bursting open, is a symbol of the fullness of suffering and resurrection of Jesus.

The equal armed cross on her chest is a symbol of the crossing and meeting of four elements, such as the seasons, directions or elements.

The High Priestess card has many small details and each of them has an important purpose. Nothing is there by accident.

This is especially important if your eye suddenly falls on a detail in the card that you maybe have not noticed before or jumps out at you. That detail may have an important message for you.

Why do you want to learn a specific language? If you don't have any personal reasons, it will be way more difficult for you to learn it. If you must learn a new language because of your job, then try to find some other reasons to learn a language, for example "I want to learn Spanish, because I want to be able to interact with locals while I'm on vacation in Mexico".

2. Your goal

What is your goal? Do you want to just be able to communicate, be fluent or proficient? It's very important to know what your goal is. You should also set a deadline - when do you want to become communicative, fluent or proficient? What do you want to do with your new language? Interact with native speakers, watch movies, read books? Note down all of these things.

3. Routine

You need to develop a routine to learn and practice your new language every single day. It will help you learn way more quickly and regularly. People who learn from time to time won't become fluent or proficient within a very short time.

Witch, Pagan or Wiccan - Do You Need to Be Any of These to Work With Magickal Energies?

Working with magickal energies is something that is becoming more and more popular these days, whether it be through working directly with the Tarot, pendulums, numbers or candles or having a mystic or light-worker do it for you. However, confusion often reigns where magickal energy is concerned. Does one need to be a witch in order to work with energy? Or does one become a witch if they work with magickal energies? What about religion? Will someone go to hell if they work with magickal energies? Brings to mind the old saying about which witch is which - but the answer to working with energies is as simple as the act itself and anyone can do it.

Take candle magick, for example. Anyone can engage in this type of energy work without being a metaphysician, pagan, Wiccan or witch - in fact, not all Wiccans are witches and not all Wiccans are witches. And whether or not one is religious is beside the point as well...the elements of religions, lifestyles and labels have nothing whatsoever to do with working with the natural and pure energy which surrounds all of us: all that is required is a relatively clean soul (which means that you don't set out to deliberately run over your neighbor's cat); an honest belief that there is something 'out there' which we cannot see but accept as real nonetheless and an honest and true 'need' which requires immediate attention.

Unless you have been living under a dark rock somewhere, you already know that the practice of lighting candles has been around since man first discovered that the combination of wax, string and fire produced light. Candles have been used for religious purposes, spiritual purposes, illumination purposes and birthday purposes. And some others I'm sure I don't know about. Everyone has, I'm fairly sure, either lit a candle in honor of someone who has passed or blown out way too many birthday candles for just one breath.

There is a certain mystical and magickal quality to candles and for very special reasons...and this is where one form of energy work comes in. This work can be done by you...whether you are a butcher, baker or a...well, you get the idea. Also, keep in mind that the following model can be used for any other need, such as for love, health, employment...all needs can be cored down to a candle color and adjusted to suit your requirements.

Suppose you are three days shy of rent day and three hundred dollars shy of rent. That is a need, for sure (be sure not to confuse need with want - we can want a new coat or we can need one: big difference). Now, if you are fairly certain that you are a decent person (which most of us are, after all) and you know, deep in your bones, that there is indeed something mysterious and greater 'out there' than all of us combined - say an 'energy' of sorts - then all you need is a green candle, a holder and a packet of matches. Simple, right?

Well, now, nothing in life is that simple. You will have to be willing to invest a little bit of time and a little bit of serious thought. If you want me to confuse the issue for you just for fun, we can throw in some incense, an unused pin (the kind you use to darn your socks) and some normal oil (the kind you bake with) or specialty oil (which you can buy at any metaphysical store)....but for now, let's keep it simple, right?

Okay, so the basics here involve finding yourself a new green candle (tapered if possible - immerse the candle in sea salt water prior to use: this removes any negative energies it may have gathered on its journey to you), a secure holder in which to set it and a nice, quiet, still and private place where you can sit yourself down and get comfortable. That means no cell phone, television, radio, kids...if necessary, close the door and if possible, turn out the lights...you will still need, of course, enough light to see so that you don't inadvertently set the curtains on fire.

When you are settled, hold the candle in both of your hands and focus your mind on what you are about to do. You can even gently stroke the candle (draw both of your hands from the outside edges towards the middle: this draws things toward you) or roll it between your palms...this imbues it with your energies and is sometimes referred to as 'charging'. This can obviously be done in other, more complicated ways, but as should be obvious, simple works for me. When you feel the time is right, place the candle in its holder (melt a bit of the bottom so it is rooted to the base of the holder) and set it where you can see it clearly - I like to sit on the ground with the candle at eye-level.

What you are doing, essentially, is placing an order (just like from a catalog) for a particular item that you need: in this case, the means to keep a roof over your head. Allow your doubting and meddling thought patterns to flow through your brain until you reach that place of calm which will allow you to consciously admit that you accept the existence of the 'Higher Power' (whichever way you choose to address this power is your business - the rose will smell as sweet no matter what you call it).

When your brain has reached that relatively peaceful place, say a prayer. This is not as daunting as it sounds...simply, in your own words, ask God to hear you and to provide for your need. Feel that need for it is real and it is serious and then state your intention, for instance, you can say (or think - words spoken or thought carry energy) "My need is real and serious and immediate. I require 300.00 by December 1, 2010 in order to keep a roof over my head. I ask that this need be fulfilled in whichever manner you see fit and that its coming harm none, including myself." At this moment and from then on (and this is key in importance!) see yourself holding the cash you need in your hand. See it, smell it, rub it and be grateful...in other words, see it already happening. Feel your sheer delight and relief! At the height of your emotion, light your candle and thank your God with sincerity. Sit for a few moments and study the flame. Feel the empowerment of what you have just done - and you will feel it, trust me. Never doubt for one second that what you are doing will happen. Just a pinch of doubt is enough to dilute the strength of the process.

Then allow the candle to burn down. If you are using a typical taper, this should be within 3 to 5 hours. If you need to leave the room or the house (it goes without saying never leave a burning candle unattended!), do not blow out the flame (this will 'blow away' your intention): simply snuff it out using a traditional snuffer or even an upside down cup. You can relight it upon your return (and do repeat a condensed version of your original prayer and intention).

Simple, right? Nope. Not so fast. Now comes the tricky part - you have to let it go. Release the thought of what you have just done. Forget about it and go about your business. Think of it like this: if you have a balloon in your hand and it is loaded with your need, how is the Universe (my name for that 'Higher Power') ever going to get its hands on it in order to work with your 'order/request'? You must let it go! Of course, you are a spirit having a human experience, but you still have to work within the boundaries of the human brain, so this is not as easy as it might sound: every time you catch yourself thinking about it, deliberately think about something else, like your favorite show or person or activity...whatever works for you.

Okay. Now you're done. You have just completed your first candle magick energy work. Or ritual. There are many words for many things, but I prefer the easy ones.

Tips for Staying Cool and Collected After Applying to College

The process of applying to college and waiting for an acceptance letter can be one of the most stressful times during a high school experience. This is why it is important to take a step back and recognize that, while choosing college is very important, it should not interfere with one's senior year. Most college students report that the best memories they have of high school took place during their senior year, and especially during the second semester. Because this is the exact time that acceptance and rejection letters are being mailed, it will be helpful to make use of the following tips to maintain your sanity:

1. Just "let it be"

After hitting the "submit" button on your application, your best technique is simply to let it be. What's done is done and can't be changed - which should provide a certain level of relief! Clicking "submit" means that the time to obsessively stress over your stats, skills, extracurricular, and test scores has come to an end. Enjoy yourself!

2. Take advantage of your senior year

Senior year is the time to solidify friendships; to branch out and make new, unexpected friends; and to appreciate everything you love about your home town. Even if you already feel pent up, restless, or ready to leave, there will be many things you quickly miss when you settle into college. Do you have favorite restaurants, movie theaters, shopping malls, or basketball courts that you've always gone to with your friends? If so, don't take these things for granted; go spend some quality time around your neighborhood and cherish the time you have with your high school friends.

3. Put everything in perspective

Many seniors in high school operate under the mentality that only a select few colleges are "good enough" to validate all the effort put into their high school experience. However, in the past few years, college in general has become more and more difficult to get into - and being accepted to the top universities is even more challenging. This is why it is important to remember just how many colleges actually exist, and easy it is to find two that can offer similar experiences. It can be helpful to realize that, since you all made it through the same rigorous admissions process, the other students at the schools you were accepted to will be a lot more similar to you than you think.

4. Learn for the sake of learning

Even though you've already submitted your college applications, your grades do still matter. However, instead of stressing out over receiving the perfect scores on every upcoming exam or presentation, try to enjoy your time in the classroom. Ask more questions, try to absorb the subject matter and apply it to the real world, and even take some time to get to know your teacher. This may be the last time that your classes are as intimate and close-knit as they tend to be during high school, so use your teacher as a resource. Most teachers can offer invaluable advice about college and one's academic life after high school.

Ground Schools Across the Nation Adopt Online Education Programs

While his two roommates sleep, University of Florida freshman Anish Patel goes to class. But, he only moves from his bed to his desk two feet away to attend his 9:35 economics class. Given the opportunity to either attend class or watch a live stream video over his computer, Patel says he, like many, prefers the latter.

The University of Florida is just one brick and mortar school to adopt online education programs. And, it's not necessarily for student and professor convenience. Instead, with rising student enrollment, ground schools have been forced to address the lack of teaching space. 1,500 undergraduate students are enrolled in Patel's economics class and with no space large enough to house all of the students- live streams of the class are offered as an alternative.

Popular psychology, biology, and statistics classes (among others) are also offered online- and many students say they prefer the online platform to the face-to-face classrooms. University of Florida provost, Joe Glover agrees- "quite honestly, the higher education industry in the United States has not been tremendously effective in the face-to-face mode if you look at national graduation rates. At the very least we should be experimenting with other modes of delivery of education."

The University of Iowa and North Carolina are two other prominent ground schools who have introduced mandatory online courses or other online course options. The University of North Carolina, for instance, requires first year Spanish students to take their language course online.

Not only do the online courses allow educators to address growing student enrollment issues and significant education funding cuts, they also ready students for the predominantly digital workplace and provide them with necessary tech skills. Additionally, says Provost Glover, as more and more students turn to the internet for their educational needs, traditional ground schools need to offer students the Web-based learning options that they want. Continual increases in online school enrollment attest to this, says Glover. "We see this as the future of higher education."

How to Speak English Fluently - Ideas and Tips on How to Speak English Fluently

Almost everyone does or should understand how important it is to be able to speak, write, and read English. Spoken across the world and serving as a main language for commerce, English is important for foreigners to learn if they want to compete as well as they can in business and enjoy social and cultural understandings around the globe. For some, just being able to speak a bit of a language is enough, but for second language students or other students who know multiple languages but not English, it may be crucial to become fluent in English.

Fluency in English can be very important if you want to take on a sensitive job in a predominately English-speaking area. For example, if you want to be a police officer and you are moving to the United States from a foreign country and you don't speak English, you will need to become fluent in English. Your fluency will allow you to perform most effectively to help people in times of stress or trouble. Lives may be at stake including yours if people don't understand your instructions or whatever it is you are telling them. You may need to give someone very detailed instructions to save a life and you will only be able to do that if you commit to learning English and becoming fluent.

One of the ways you can learn to speak English fluently is through formal coursework combined with informal conversation opportunities. You need formal coursework so you know you are learning English correctly. Just because a native speaker talks to you in English doesn't mean he or she knows correct grammar or usage. So be sure you learn the rules first, and then you can start employing all the exceptions and slang terms that English is known for.

Your formal coursework in learning to speak English fluently may include learning online and through programs like Skype. You will be able to study from anywhere you have internet access, day or night, and you get the benefit of talking and practicing your vocabulary and phrases as if you were on the phone with someone through a voice and video program. It's important that you interact with an instructor or other English students as you learn so you can make sure you are learning the right terms and usage. A tape that you buy and listen to can offer you suggestions but it cannot stop you at a particular moment to correct you or give you a better explanation.

Alien Encounters Offer Interesting Information About the Grey Aliens

When someone mentions the word alien, most people will describe what is now known as the Grey alien. Because of the popularity of extraterrestrials created by all forms of media including movies and books, the Grey Aliens have become the modern day icon for the alien phenomena. Further credibility is offered due to the fact that abductees have given similar accounts and descriptions about this particular species.

What do Grey Aliens Look Like?

Extremely thin with an over-sized head, the Grey is covered with wrinkled, dolphin-like skin made up of varying shades of gray. They have no eyelids so their almond shape eyes appear very large. The Grey stands about 4 to 6 feet in height and weighs between 50 to 90 pounds. It has 4 fingers on webbed hands.

Because they have no ears, it is assumed that they communicate by telepathy. People who have been abducted by Grey aliens confirm that the alien never uses their mouth to speak, but the abductees have a sense of knowing just what the alien wants them to do because thoughts come into their minds when they are with them. This thought transference or telepathy is very calming and peaceful so much so that experiencers state that they wanted to do what the alien suggested and were very calm about the entire encounter.

Famous Grey Alien Abduction

One of the most famous accounts of alien abduction is the story of husband and wife, Barney & Betty Hill. In 1961, they were abducted by aliens and brought onto a UFO where they both received medical examinations. Betty Hill describes her encounter much like going to a doctor's appointment. She had a long conversation with the Grey alien doctor who showed her a star map of their home planet and discussed trade routes their ship traveled.

Where do the Greys come from?

Betty Hill began experiencing nightmares soon after her abduction. She sought professional help and was able to meet with a Boston doctor who used hypnosis to bring back the circumstances of her abduction. She was able to recall portions of the star map and drew a picture of what she remembered although unable to pinpoint exactly where the Greys originated. Years later, Marjorie Fish while researching alien abduction stories heard about the Hill abduction and was able to review the drawing of the star map. She theorized that the Grey aliens' home was on Zeta Reticuli, twin stars about 220 trillion miles from Earth.

Why are they here?

Most people who have encountered this alien being feel that they are friendly and mean no true harm to humankind. They believe that the Greys observe us and document our physical condition just as scientists studying animal species here on earth.

There are other abductees who allege that the Greys are not so innocent and have more sinister plans for humans. Their stories involve a civil rebellion by the Greys' creators, the Reptilians, a race of aliens who cloned the Greys and forced them into slavery. Because the Greys have no access to the technology that cloned them, some stories state that the Grey aliens struck a deal with the U.S. Government. These alien beings would exchange technologically advanced information to the government if we allowed them to abduct humans for genetic experimental purposes. If these stories are true, then the majority of alien abductions committed by the Greys involve their plans to use human DNA to help their race survive.

How to Speak English - How to Speak English Properly As a Second Language Student

If you want to learn how to speak English properly as a second language student, congratulations are in order. The reason it's important to celebrate your desire and commitment to learning English and doing it well is because it will take time and focus on your part. Even if you choose to enjoy online English coursework with the benefit of such programs like Skype that allow you to converse online with your instructor, you will still need to practice on your own time away from the computer. Before you sign up for just any internet English class, be sure it meets your needs. If you are looking for a fast-paced business English course, make sure that is what you sign up for. If you want just social conversation, that is available as well.

To learn how to speak English properly, you can follow taped instruction as well as take formal training in a classroom or the internet. Either way, make sure you also have a good instructor. Just because you know someone who can speak English doesn't mean that person is qualified to explain the rules and formalities of English in its written or spoken form. You definitely still want to talk to as many people who speak English as you can when you are learning English as a second language, even if they are not instructors. Your instructors will help you learn the rules and then your friends and general English speakers can help you enjoy the language and use it socially.

Your coursework in learning to speak English properly will involve a lot of new vocabulary. You can practice your pronunciation, spelling, and reading of these new words online with instructors. You can also practice on your own when you are not on the internet. The more you practice, the faster you will learn the language. Be sure you ask questions right away if you don't understand something so you don't have to relearn a correct spelling or usage of a word.

Look for other interesting resources that can compliment your desire to speak English properly. You can watch a variety of English-speaking movies or practice reading magazine and newspaper articles written in English aloud. A good technique for retaining English instruction is to learn a proper pronunciation and spelling of a word or phrase and then teach that to someone else. When you can explain something well to someone else, your own retention and understanding is more likely.

How Much Should I Be Saving for My Child's College Education

Parents today are being given a "heads up" about saving for college for their children. Fidelity Investments has, as one of its products, a 529 College Savings Plan. When figuring the amount of money that should be put into that savings plan, Fidelity took a look at both public and private colleges. They assumed a 5.4% annual rise in tuition and costs over the next 18 years and also conservatively figured, based on income groups, how much would be forthcoming in family graduation gifts, scholarships and grants. All of this is in an effort to avoid what is happening now: parents are projected to be able to meet a much smaller percentage of college costs than in the past. Please note that these costs do not include transportation or health care as these are not considered qualified 529 expenditures. Fidelity estimated that these costs would be between $1,750 and $2,500 per year and that parents might want to save for these expenses in a separate account, such as a savings account in their own name, rather than the name of the student. New health care laws somewhat help as you can now cover a child living at home until age 26, but that doesn't help if your child attends an out-of-state college.

So, if you make $55,000 a year, you will have to save $48,000 to cover the qualified costs in a public university and $107,000 to cover the same costs in a private university. If you make $75,000 the numbers jump to $51,000 and $115,000 for public or private universities, respectively. It goes up even more for those making $100,000, to $55,000 for a public school and $123,000 for a private one. The numbers can be staggering, yes, but wouldn't you rather be forewarned than realize 10 years from now that you should have been saving a lot more money? If you are able to do this, in any way, shape or form, this will alleviate the necessity for your child(ren) to take out additional school loans in order to get that college degree.

To make it easier, Fidelity has broken it down even further and has provided their recommended amounts. Most of their 529 account holders range in the $55,000 to $100,000 income range, but these percentages can be applied to whatever your income is.

If you make up to $55,000 a year, you should be saving 3.5% of your income for a public college and 9% of your income for a private university. At an income of exactly $55,000, that equates to $160 a month for a public school and $410 a month for a private one. Between $55,000 and $75,000 that percentage drops a bit to 3% for public and 6.5% for private, equaling $190 a month for public and $410 a month for private. As you can see, the percentage only drops because you are making a larger income and for a private university you will probably have the same financial aids available to you as someone making $55,000. Between $75,000 and $100,000 there is little change for a public school, still saving at a rate of 3% of your income, but the savings amount recommended for a private school will be 5.5%.

Kind of daunting, isn't it? Unfortunately, there may come a time when qualifying for student loans will be as difficult as qualifying for a mortgage or car loan today. Student loans are defaulted upon at an alarming rate, especially with a 9.5% unemployment rate. It is hoped that the economy will be in much better shape when your children enter college, but there are no guarantees. You don't know what life will be like 18, 15 or even 10 years from now. We can hope that times will be easier and that our children will not be struggling as we are right now, but the bail outs and the stimulus plans have pretty much put our children in danger of paying for this debt long after we are gone.

Doesn't it make sense to do what you can do today to hedge against an unpredictable future? If you are able to, saving in a 529, or similar type of account may be an insurance policy for your child(ren)'s future. And don't let the numbers above scare you to death. Saving something is definitely better than saving nothing. Your child(ren) will thank you for your foresight and sacrifice.

Joe has a couple of kids in college and a couple more that will no doubt go to college too. For now though, his younger boys are playing in the garden with their Dad, a favorite family pastime. Joe lives in the country and does most of his shopping online at Garden Harvest Supply. They have everything from organic vegetable seeds to a rat zapper; everything he could possibly need for his home and garden.

5 Unexpected Benefits of Using the Internet for Education

With respect to online education, the question of whether it is efficient or useful to use the Internet as a way to convey education is often debated. Some worry about the effectiveness of online learning methods, the legitimacy of online instructors, or the reliability of technology. Others argue that the Internet is the great equalizer and can make education widespread and affordable. This article points out five subtle benefits of using the Internet for education that might not have been previously considered.

1. It is easier to participate online

Many students are deterred from class participation because of shyness, embarrassment, or fear that their answer will be incorrect. The Internet provides a certain level of anonymity because students are typically not surrounded by peers they see every day and with whom they engage in social relationships. Therefore, it is easier and less intimidating to engage in the discussion in online classes, which helps students to better retain and understand the material being presented.

2. Environmentally friendly

Despite many reforms undergone by different schools across the country, education as an institution still has a serious effect on the environment through its inefficiency with school materials, its reliance on cars to transport students, and most importantly, its overuse of papers. Many colleges compel students to print out hundreds of pages of readings every day, only to quickly address the articles in class and then never discuss them again. The Internet eliminates all of these problems by providing information on computer screens instead of on books.

3. Broader access to supplementary material

Instead of relying on a single school library, using the Internet as an educational platform allows for the world of information provided by the Internet to be readily available at any moment. There are more articles, books, documents, and other resources available on the Internet than there are in any school library across the country, because most of these library's books have already been digitized!

4. Better attention span because you pick the time that works best for you

Many students find that being forced to attend class in a certain predetermined schedule is the single reason they don't perform as well academically. Some classes are too early, some are too late, and some are too uncomfortably long. Online learning can be taken during the time that best works for the student, so he or she can schedule them during the time when they have the most energy and are most willing to learn.

5. Savings

Not only are online classes generally more affordable than the in-person classes offered at colleges and universities, but there are other costs that are eliminated when one chooses the Internet as a base for education. For example, transportation fees are eliminated, school materials no longer need to be purchased, and you can even argue that taking classes at home reduces the need to buy lunch out every day. In today's economy, it is important to get more bang for your buck, and online education offers the same quality education for a much more reasonable price.

Learn To Properly Speak And Write English - Tips to Speak and Write Proper English

If you are confused about how to learn to properly speak and write English, you don't have to be confused any longer. There are ways for you to learn proper skills and speak English well whether in business or informal settings. One of the first things you should consider is finding a qualified instructor that can work with you frequently either online or in a classroom. Learning English online is now more convenient and effective with programs like Skye that allow learners to converse with their instructors through the internet by speaking as well as through written words.

It's a good idea to seek formal English training from an experienced teacher or tutor who can explain and teach you English. You will need to decide how fast you want to try and progress with your English skills. The more you practice reading, writing, and speaking English, the more of the new vocabulary, grammar, and usage you will begin to retain and be able to employ more comfortably. If you can only study with an instructor once or twice a week for a few hours, that is fine, but you need to still do some practice on your own time and realize that your progress will be slower than someone who is practicing and receiving instruction every day or for several hours every other day.

To learn to speak English properly, you will have to be willing to make a few mistakes and not take yourself too seriously. English has a lot of exceptions to its basic rules that frustrate new learners, but over time, you will ingrain those exceptions and know how to use them. You should spend time not only with a formal instructor but also with friends or people who can simply have random and informal conversations with you. Maybe you could walk to the market during your lunch hour and identify foods in English and practice purchasing goods in English.

There will be a lot of repetition when you start learning English. You may use flash cards or other oral drills to start each class session to warm up for your lesson. This repetition is important because your brain will start to automatically recognize words, meanings, pronunciations, and when to use them when you practice over and over. You should not be afraid to ask your instructor questions about something if you don't understand. Much of what you will learn continues to build on the material that came before it.

What Is the Afterlife Like? The EASIEST Way to Get a Glimpse of the Afterlife Before You Die

What is the afterlife like? Does is resemble what we read about in the Bible...or what our teachers and preachers TELL us it's going to look like? Or should we trust the skeptics, cynics and debunkers who tell us that there is NOTHING waiting for us at all?

Want to know the truth?

Most of the people who teach, preach and lecture about the afterlife haven't got any more of a clue than you do....they just pretend to have answers they really don't grasp at all. Most ideas I've seen, describing the ethereal realms are regurgitated by fundamentalists of different types and stripes...and more often than not, they're there to SCARE you silly! (and usually convince you of their point of view before it's too late..:-)

I'm going to make a very controversial statement.....but one I believe with every fabric of my being:

If you want to know what the afterlife is REALLY like, ask someone who has SEEN it, up close and personal...and has survived to tell the story. (or come back to visit after they're gone!)

There are MILLIONS of people who have had near death experiences...and pronounce clinically dead, and who have had amazing encounters that science tells us would be otherwise IMPOSSIBLE.....because they've been clinically dead. These folks often report seeing, in incredible detail...things happening in hospital rooms, life saving medical procedures being done on their lifeless bodies.....they report amazing factual recollections of things they couldn't possibly know.

But they ALSO report beautiful visions of worlds that wait for all of us......and re-unions with loved ones we've lost, who await our return. Sound silly? For some it may....but for those who had the experiences, it's a wonderful glimpse at the world that awaits us all, REGARDLESS of what we believe.

So is the BEST way to get a glimpse of the afterlife to try to HAVE a near death experience now?

Absolutely not..:-) For me...the best way to prove the continuation of consciousness beyond death, is to talk to a genuine medium who has the AUTHENTIC gift of communicating with those who "live" there now. The fact is, while there are plenty of fakes out there, a genuine medium reading....where VERIFIABLE information comes to you about your loved ones...and the afterlife, is the very BEST and most exciting evidence there is. (and the ONLY thing that transformed ME from a skeptic to a believer, almost overnight).

Relevance Of CAT In Master In Business Administration

By and by, the relevance of MBA education in India-one of the emerging economies in the world-has increased immeasurably. Countless number of management institutions has sprung up in patches in the country to inculcate professional MBA trainings to deserving candidates, and this new development aims at eliminating the current shortage of qualified and well-trained managers sprawling across all the industries in the country.

CAT (Common Admission Test) is India's most reputed management examination, and it is also the foremost screening process for admission in premier Indian Management Institutions (IIMs). The CAT score determines not only an MBA aspirant's dream to qualify for admission in IIMs but it inadvertently validates management admission of MBA aspirants in mid and low rung institutions.

Every year, tens and thousands of students irrespective of their fields of academic study or specialization take their trysts with CAT. Apparently, the trend in the CAT examination follows 'twist and turn' and this year it has recorded a drastic drop of about 15% in the number of candidates compared to last year's 2,41,000 students who took the test. Industry experts blame the prevailing post-recession market (to some extent) responsible for unleashing insecurity among MBA aspirants.

According to statistics, nearly 60% of the total number of CAT applicants is candidates with job experience, and it is this segment of the data that have shown a drastic drop in numbers. CAT examination is especially designed for students who are interested in pursuing post graduate level management degree from prestigious B-schools in India. It is held once annually and the level of difficulty is comparatively higher to other management entrance examinations, plus this kind of examination is conducted at a national level.

Technically, the CAT written examination consists of various sections whose objectives are to test the overall intelligence and proficiency of the candidate in the areas of general awareness, logical reasoning/ ability, data interpretation, quantitative ability and so on. Owing to the high difficulty level of the examination, interested candidates are recommended thorough practice and preparation before going ahead with it.

This management entrance holds the highest value in MBA admission in India that is why it stirs waves among students who are keen on applying for admission in renowned B-schools. The management entrance examination is conducted for admission to the following post graduate programs namely- Management, Agri-business management, Software enterprise management, Computer aided management, Public policy and management, Management for executives and lastly, Fellow program in management.

A graduation degree from any recognized university with not less than 50% aggregate marks in any stream is the standard requirement for CAT application. How to Learn English - How to Learn English From Anywhere

If you are disabled or live far away from a university or other teaching facilities, you may wonder how to learn English. You can actually learn English from anywhere that you have internet access. Online English language instructors and programs can teach you everything you need to speak English properly. Programs like Skype allow you to see your instructor as well as chat right through your computer in real time, so it's like you are physically in a classroom. Many businesses like to have their employees who don't speak English well to take online courses to improve their performance.

Companies that have a lot of non-English speakers can enrol their employees at a discount in an online English course. Instruction can take place at a designated time, or employees can study on their own time. Coursework can be designed for individuals or for groups. No matter what the course design is, it is very important to English language students to practice frequently. This is another reason why a program like Skype helps. You and your friend can talk over the internet if you can't meet physically because you are in different cities or have odd work schedules.

To learn English, you will need to learn vocabulary. You will learn English pronunciation and spelling and practice reading, writing, and speaking English words. Each lesson will build on the lessons that came before, so it's very helpful to review before you start a new lesson. You should also ask questions so you are confused as lessons continue. The English language has a lot of exceptions to the basic rules. You can learn these exceptions over time and it will get easier for you. A simple way to practice when you are waiting in line or on a bus is to carry flash cards with you. On one side of the card, you can put an English word or phrase and on the other, you can write the same phrase in your native language. Go through the cards as quickly as you can to practice words, phrases, their spellings and pronunciations.

You will also need to practice writing and reading English, not just speaking it, in order to learn the language. When you approach the learning process this way, you will learn to retain the instruction and become more natural in all three methods of communicating in English. With English fluency, you may be able to get a better job or be more successful at the job you have because you are able to communicate in the world's dominate language of commerce. Instructors may have various suggestions for you about how to learn English. The most important is to learn correct vocabulary and usage first and to practice frequently.

Witchcraft and Witches: The Frequently Asked Questions

Sorceress, witches, black magic, witches' pets, and witchcraft: all these words pertain to the dark side and it is apparent that what people know about these things is very simple and is based on hearsay. There are a lot of unanswered questions that we can help answering by simply defining the real deal.

Etymology

First, what is a witch? People think of witches as old hags with long, wiry, gray hair. They are always portrayed in Halloween costumes as crones with broomsticks. Witch, in reality, came from the Anglo-Saxon word "wicce" which means wise. This word can be further traced into the Indo-European word which means to bend through magic or to make an object wiggle or wicker. An Old Norse word called vitki means wizard and can also be traced to a word which means wise seer. Male witches are called warlocks. However, this is rarely used. Other words that we know of that may be associated to witch is heathen, or dweller of the heath, and pagan, which means country dweller. These words refer to native people who worship nature in various forms.

In our world today, a witch is a woman who practices a religion focused on nature and healing. They honor the divinity of females instead of the male Christian God. Today, witchcraft may be summed in several practices such as the practice of magic, incantations, spells, potions, singing and dancing, creative mythology, herbalism, rituals, fortune telling, and divination.

Prayer

The second question that comes to mind is if witches pray. Well, it is safe to say that some witches pray but most of them do not. Witches have deities of their choice and many of these witches invoke these deities if they need guidance or power. Some witches meditate and empower themselves through these activities.

And who are these deities, you may ask. You will get practically hundreds of answers since witchcraft is involved with the worship of hundreds of beings found in nature including those that are not present in the world. Accordingly, there is a transcendental deity that witches consider to be the supreme of all deities. The problem is, this supreme deity is very far beyond what the human mind can comprehend and experience, this is why the worship is broken down into smaller pieces or parts-the minority of deities. For example, there is a Supreme deity called the Goddess. The issues is that this goddess is unreachable and as a result, she has been broken down in several names and forms such as Diana, Athena, Hecate, Brigantia, Amaterasu, Ishtar, and so on.

Conclusion

Are witches Satanists? The answer is no. This is precisely because you have to believe in Satan to become one. Witches do not believe in the existence of Satan or heaven and hell as Christians do. The Horned God of witches is not evil and not good. This Horned God is the source of energy of nature. In Christianity, the goat-hoofed and horned god is Pan, the god of Music and the symbol for Satan, which is a deliberate corruption of how Lucifer actually looks like.

The Right Masters Degree Program Gives Career Tools, Professional Highs

The masters degree is the graduate level degree conferred to a student who has been admitted to and completed the coursework of what is usually the first level of a post-graduate degree. In some instances a masters is an essential component of becoming a professional in a certain field. Obtaining a masters degree also leaves a candidate eligible to pursue their PhD.

There are a variety of programs for students who are looking to further their courses of study to this level within a field, and for some professions the masters is an eventual requirement for their chosen career. The track for this level can be research-based, course work-based, or it could be a combination of the two. The level of coursework is more extensive than the work required in order to complete the undergraduate degree.

A degree at this level can take roughly one to two years to complete and students generally need to accumulate anywhere from 60-120 credits in order to finish the program. Many masters programs are now online through some colleges, as well as traditional colleges. Masters degree programs are also usually flexible to accommodate those who have work schedules that preclude attendance during daytime hours.

The three masters degree programs that can open doors for candidates upon completion are the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Education (MEd), and the Master of Public Administration (MPA). These are versatile diplomas that can prepare a person for rewarding careers that can be high paying in some cases or lead to high profile careers.

The Master of Business Administration is a versatile degree that introduces students to the vast nature of running a successful business. Core MBA courses are designed to teach students about human resources, accounting, marketing, operations management, resource allocation, etc. This program takes roughly two years to complete and students can choose a course of study to specialize in.

The Master of Education degree is becoming ever more necessary for people who have a passion for being teachers. Many MEd programs prepare candidates to move beyond teaching, however, there are degree programs within the discipline that emphasize learning theory and curriculum development. The MEd is a degree that is being increasingly required for teachers to obtain if they choose to complete permanent teacher certification in many states.

The Master of Public Administration is a degree program that focuses on governmental administration at all levels (local, state and federal). This degree is considered an interdisciplinary degree because in order to obtain the MPA a candidate has to show proficiency in a variety of areas from economics to political science. This degree lends itself to students pursuing careers in all areas of public life - especially those areas where one does not have to run for election.

Students who are willing to put in the work will find that the masters degrees is an excellent way to advance in a career that they may currently feel has stagnated or for students who would like to enter the job market with a leg up on the competition. Graduate schools offer all the tools needed to successfully complete this level of proficiency.
