Understanding German Culture Before Visiting the Country

One hears frequently that German is very difficult, but like all languages, to learn it takes perseverance and an effort to learn. German has a copious and rich vocabulary for the description of objects and their characteristics.

There are definite rules for specific letters and syllables. The German alphabet has four more letters than the English one: "ä", "ö", "ü" and "ß" (es-tzet), which can be written as: "ae", "oe", "ue" and "ss" respectively. For instance: können can be written koennen.

One can also learn German in schools or institutes. One can prefer to learn by oneself utilizing videos, with which we can hear the pronunciation and learn the vocabulary through images. Another good method is to buy a book that for sure you can find in any good bookstore dedicated to languages, or with a good section on this topic. At the beginning it is a good practice to read simple and short texts that require only a basic knowledge.

German has three articles: "der", which is the masculine article, "die", feminine, and "das" which is neutral. The plural of all of them is "die". Respectively each of these articles has their declination. What might be hard for a non-German speaker is to acquire ease at handling the genders of the nouns. For instance, in German, the table is masculine. The girl, Miss, the car, and the house are neutral. Colour and the juice are feminine. But all of this is learnt through practice, and also, we require using our memory.

Summing it up, I must mention that this language can provide us with the opportunity to study in Germany, work with German enterprises and to get top knows about the country and its culture.
