5 W Questions for the Story of "John the Baptist's Foretold Birth" From Luke One

John the Baptist may have grown to like locusts and honey, but he was a baby just like you and me at one time. However, the story of his birth was probably far more eventful than yours or mine. The story of how Zechariah and Elizabeth learned of their future son is nothing short of amazing. Your young ones will enjoy reading this story of a special birth just as much as the birth of Jesus. What child doesn't like a story with an angel in it?

Here are twelve 5 "W" questions - who, what, when, where, why and how - with their answers for the story of "John the Baptist's Foretold Birth" found in Luke 1: 5-25. You can ask the questions or you could have a nice hand or finger puppet do the asking. Have fun!

Questions for the story "The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold"

1. Who are John the Baptist's parents?

Answer: Zechariah and Elizabeth

2. What kind of job did Zechariah do?

Answer: He was a priest.

3. How many children did Zechariah and Elizabeth have before John was born?

Answer: None.

4. Where was Zechariah when an angel visited him?

Answer: In the temple.

5. Why was Zechariah afraid?

Answer: Because he saw an angel.

6. What did the angel tell Zechariah?

Answer: He said, "Do not be afraid." He also told Zechariah that he and Elizabeth would have a baby.

7. What name were they to give their baby?

Answer: John.

8. (This question is advanced, but you can still try it.) How would John prepare people for the coming of Jesus?

Answer: Through the spirit and power of Elijah.

9. How could Zechariah be sure that the angel was telling the truth?

Answer: Because the angel was from God who always tells the truth.

10. Why was Zechariah not able to speak?

Answer: Because he did not believe that the angel was telling the truth.

11. Who did Elizabeth thank for giving her a baby?

Answer: God.

12. When would Zechariah be able to speak again?

Answer: After his son was born.
